Dr. Welsch joined The Jackson Clinic in 1999, and has been a member since that time of the medical staff of Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, the only Jackson area hospital offering daVinci robotic-assisted surgery, in which he has special interest and expertise.
In addition to performing the first robotic surgery – hysterectomy – in Jackson with his partner, Dr. Jeff Ball, in 2009, Dr. Welsch is the first gynecologist in the mid-South to offer daVinci single-incision hysterectomy. He has also performed removal of scar tissue, treatment of ovarian cysts and masses, removal of uterine fibroids, and excision of endometriosis utilizing the benefits of robotic-assisted surgery. Dr. Welsch has completed more than 600 robotic procedures, and is one of the most experienced gynecologic robotic surgeons in Tennessee.
Dr. Welsch and his partner, Dr. Jeff Ball, are also the first surgeons in Jackson to perform robotic-assisted sacral colpopexy, the gold standard treatment for certain types of pelvic organ prolapse. They are the only gynecologists in Jackson who are instructors for robotic surgery – a select group comprised of less than two percent of gynecologists nationwide - and have travelled extensively to educate other surgeons in usage of the daVinci system.
Dr. Welsch lectures on the development of robotic surgery and its current applications for patient care and has appeared on EPlus Broadband and WBBJ; been interviewed by the Jackson Sun and West Tennessee Medical News; and been featured in the West Tennessee Women’s Journal and VIP Magazine.
